Unfortunately I was too catup in our visit, I forgot to take a picture of the front but it is quite impressive!
I booked this before we travelled because with English Heritage you can do it further in advance. Unfortuantely, it was one of the hottest days when we were here. I was melting and could not wait to get bck to our room, not because this place wasn't great, it was just so uncomfortable!
The Battle of Hastings actually took place in a place called Battle but Battle of Battle didn't sound right so they call it the Battle of Hastings.
In 1066, the Normans defeated the Angloe-Saxons on this battefield. The whole place is really well put together. They have an exhibit where you can see the weaponary of the time and interactive displays. I highly recommend getting the free audio tour. I usually don't because Bug isn't usually interested but they have two different scripts (one for adults and one for children). We loved seeing the sculpture trails. In hindsight, I would not have rushed to get to the storytelling (which was good but in the blazing sun) and just stuck to the full tour as I think Bug would have enjoyed that the most.
We loved going in the gatehouse, exploring the abbey church site and walking on the castle walls. They had a great play area which kept Bug happy. They have toilets and a cafe where we had our lunch. Definetley could have spent a good 4 hours if it wasn't so hot!
