I was in Ipswich to visit the archives and thought I would take the opportunity to see what it was all about. It is quite a mix of new and old architecture. It is not as appealing as the likes of Cambridge or Norwich but is the main city for the towns and villages surrounding it, such as Lowestaff and Woodbridge.
The Ancient House was built in the 15th Century and is a a Grade I listed building. Very impressive decorations, it is worth it to wander past.
Christchurch Mansion
Christchurch Mansion is a museum in Ipswich. The mansion dates back to Tudor times. It also has a Georgian kitchen. It is thebiggest collection of Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable paintings outside of London.
It is free to visit and the park outside of the mansion is great for children to run around.
Ipswich Museum
The Ipswich Museum has great displays from the Iron Age to the Romans and Saxons. A lot of it is still in very Victorian style but the exhibits that were there when I visited were really impressive.
It is free and worth a visit if you are in Ipswich.
Ipswich Art Gallery
The Ipswich Art Gallery is located next to the Ipswich Museum so worth a wander. They display local artists work.
